Look Rad
Logo & Business Card Design

The logo is comprised of several visual elements representative of the kind of work that I do.  There is a face in the center of the logo, looking possibly surprised or agape at the amount of incredible design displayed before his red eyes.

Then there is the crux of the design - the D.  The D is comprised of 4 individual D shapes spanning outward like a wave in a pool.  They are separated by a line which connects to the central "D" core, the darkest area of the design.  The line adds additional shapes that can be recognized within the D itself as shaping the letters R and A, and there are opposing colors emanating outward from the "D" like a signal in a network.

The A represents being at the top of the pyramid, marketing outward.  The logo has shapes that resonate with current world events as well, like the pyramid system with a central top and wide bottom, and a fan of opposing colors working together in a large network.

The shape of the rest of the letters are post modern and rebellious, identifying with a younger demographic of entrepreneurs who embrace the value of communicating ideas through art and looking rad while doing it.

Business Card

The business card... I took a very different approach to that may or may not prove valuable to my marketing strategy.

I decided to only use my email address on the card as far as it was printed - there is no website name or phone number, not even my own name. I decided to take a different approach that measured both the value of my conversations with potential clients and people that I happen to give my card to at random.

Instead of not having a way to measure how much my own personal interaction mattered with a potential client, I devised a plan where I would have to ask the client for a pen to write down my additional information, and also hope that I would have an opportunity to draw or have even drawn something by hand already on the back.

This has proven useful in that when I need spare pieces of paper to draw on, I have my business cards with a blank back. I can create pieces of art, sketch, even use them as artboards for multiple designs of the same image. Then, I can sign my work and add my web address to the card by hand.

So far, the approach has garnished an enthusiastic response as well as some odd comments. A photographer friend of mine I met at a party recently described both the card and the technique as "fun" and "memorable." In other interactions, it has acted as an ironic pivot to carry conversations in longer directions that normal, such as meeting someone at a bar who may not necessarily have a personal interest in having designs made for them but may be useful as a networking asset for his friends. Now, however, he remembers you.
